India-first by design

The expense tracker
built for India.

Most expense tracking apps were built for US dollars and American spending habits. MoneyMind is built for how Indians actually earn, spend, and save — UPI for everything, cash at the kirana store, salary at month-end, SIPs on the first.

As the best Walnut alternative available today, MoneyMind fills the gap left by Walnut's shutdown with a stronger privacy model and DPDP Act 2023 compliance — the Indian data-protection law that gives you real rights over your financial data.

  • ₹ INR-native display

Amounts in rupees with Indian number formatting — lakhs and crores, not thousands.

  • UPI-aware categorisation

Recognises PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM UPI, and direct bank transfers.

  • Indian bank notifications

Optional Gmail integration parses HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, Paytm, PhonePe and 7 more.

  • No SMS permissions

Unlike apps that read your SMS inbox, MoneyMind uses secure OAuth — or nothing at all.

  • DPDP Act 2023 compliant

Your rights under India's data protection law are built into the product, not a checkbox.

  • Works on Indian networks

Full offline capability via PWA — expenses sync when you reconnect, even after a metro tunnel.

Common questions

Everything you
need to know.

Still have questions? Write to us at skv1226@gmail.com.

Is MoneyMind free?
Yes — MoneyMind is completely free for personal use. There is no credit card required, no premium tier that locks away essential features, and no advertising of any kind. Every core capability — manual expense entry, category budgets with soft-nudge alerts, spending insights, CSV export, and the optional Gmail integration — is included at zero cost. MoneyMind follows a free-forever model for personal use. We believe good personal finance tools should be accessible to every Indian, not just those who can afford a subscription. The service is run as an independent project, funded by its founders — not by monetising your data or showing you ads. If paid features are ever introduced in future, they will be clearly optional enhancements, and the full core product will remain free. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, with no fees, no friction, and no retention barriers.
Does MoneyMind work without internet?
Yes. MoneyMind is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means it works fully offline — no internet connection required to add expenses, view your history, check your budgets, or browse your spending insights. The app is designed to work on your phone, tablet, or desktop browser without installing anything from an app store. When you add an expense offline, it is saved locally and automatically synced with your account the next time your device connects to the internet. This makes MoneyMind reliable in areas with patchy connectivity — whether you are on a flight, in a metro tunnel, or simply on a weak mobile network. You can install MoneyMind on your home screen from your browser (iOS Safari or Android Chrome) for instant, one-tap access — it behaves exactly like a native app without taking up app store download space. A dedicated Android and iOS app store version is on the product roadmap.
Does MoneyMind read my SMS or link to my bank account?
No — MoneyMind does not request SMS permissions and does not connect to your bank account directly. By default, MoneyMind is a fully manual-entry expense tracker. You add what you spend, and nothing is read or imported without your explicit action. There is one optional feature: a Gmail integration that can parse payment notification emails from Indian banks and payment apps — HDFC, ICICI, Axis, SBI, Kotak, IndusInd, Yes Bank, RBL, Federal Bank, IDFC First, Paytm, PhonePe, and Deutsche Bank. This is completely opt-in, uses Google's secure OAuth flow, and only reads emails from the specific bank senders you authorise. The OAuth refresh token is stored in AES-256-GCM encrypted form and is never accessible from your browser. You can revoke the Gmail integration at any time from the app settings, and MoneyMind will immediately delete the stored token and revoke access with Google. SMS permissions are never requested.
Is my financial data safe?
Yes. MoneyMind is built with privacy as a first principle, not an afterthought. Your transaction data is stored in a Supabase database protected by row-level security — every query is automatically filtered to return only the rows that belong to your authenticated account. No other account can ever access your records. The service is compliant with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), which gives you legally-backed rights to access, correct, and permanently delete all personal data we hold about you. Gmail OAuth tokens — if you use the optional Gmail integration — are stored in AES-256-GCM encrypted form at the column level, with the 256-bit encryption key held in a separate secret store. A database-level compromise alone cannot decrypt your tokens. We do not serve advertising, do not sell data to third parties, and do not use your transaction history to train any machine-learning model. You can export everything as CSV or request permanent deletion of your account within 30 days.
I used to use Walnut. Is MoneyMind a good replacement?
Yes, MoneyMind is the closest spiritual successor to Walnut for Indian users. Walnut was loved for being manual-entry first, India-native, and privacy-respecting — qualities that most banking super-apps and global trackers simply do not offer. MoneyMind shares exactly that philosophy. It is INR-native, UPI-aware, and built specifically for the way Indians earn and spend money: cash at the kirana store, UPI for everything else, salary credited at month-end, SIP deductions on the first. The core workflow mirrors what Walnut offered: open the app, log what you spent, set a budget, and check your insights at month-end. No mandatory bank linking, no ads, no sharing your financial behaviour with a third party. MoneyMind adds a stronger privacy and security model compared to Walnut — AES-256-GCM encrypted storage, row-level security, full DPDP Act 2023 compliance — and works as a PWA so it functions offline on any device without an app store download.
What makes MoneyMind different from other budget apps?
MoneyMind is designed specifically for Indian users, which makes it different from global personal finance apps like YNAB, Mint, or Money Manager in several important ways. First, it is INR-first — amounts are displayed in rupees, formatted in the Indian numbering system, and the category system reflects how Indians actually spend money. Second, it has native UPI awareness: the optional Gmail integration recognises payment notifications from every major Indian bank and payment app. Third, it is fully offline-capable as a PWA, making it reliable on Indian mobile networks where connectivity drops regularly. Fourth, it is DPDP Act 2023 compliant, giving you legally-backed rights over your data in India. Fifth, it is completely free for personal use with no locked features and no advertising. No comparable India-first expense tracker currently combines all five of these qualities in a single app.
